Local wildlife
There is an abundance of wildlife in the north west of Scotland. In Stromeferry we have otters and occasional dolphins and seals. There is also a great deal of bird life. Cormorants and shags can be seen fishing on Loch Carron, we hear cuckoos and owls in the woods and buzzards are often seen wheeling above the hills. Every now and again a sea eagle puts in an appearance much to everyones delight.
There is also a variety of woodland in the area, from native deciduous trees such as birch, alder and ash; to the densely packed forestry plantations of spruce and larch which are both home to huge amounts of flora and fauna. Further to the north in Torridon you can walk in remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest - beautiful open woodlands which once covered much of the Highlands.
