NEW for 2011 we have created some train tours departing Edinburgh & Glasgow. The most popular package stays 2 nights at our hostel and includes a day trip of the Isle of Skye and a ride along the Harry Potter railway from Mallaig to Fort William

Day 1: Edinburgh/Glasgow to Stromeferry

An afternoon in Inverness. Enjoy a leisurely stroll around this Highland city or take a boat trip on Loch Ness.

17:52 - 20:04 Train from Inverness to Stromeferry

Stationmaster's Hostel in Stromeferry is directly opposite the station platform in this peaceful and historic fishing village, former railhead for the Inverness train where all cargo for the islands and west coast was loaded from the boats to the trains. Today only 15 houses remain leaving a peaceful place to view wildlife and walking. The house sits on the shore of Loch Carron with stunning views.

Enjoy a walking along the woodland paths or the pebble beach.

Day 2: Explore the Isle of Skye

11:04 - 11:28 train to Kyle of Lochalsh

Your Minibus Tour of the Isle of Skye will take in the majestic Cuillin mountains, the highest mountain range in Britain. It will stop off in Portree, Skye's picturesque capital for lunch and sightseeing. We will take you through the awesome lunar landscape of the Trotternish peninsula, home to some of the most unusual rock formations in Britain. See the iconic 'Old Man of Storr', marvel at the magnificent Kilt Rocks and be enchanted by the Faery Glen.

The Skye tour departs from the tourist information centre at Kyle of Lochalsh, every day at 11.45am and takes 4.5 - 5 hours including stops and returns in time for the last train back to Plockton which leaves Kyle at 5.15pm.

Day 3: Stromeferry to Edinburgh or Glasgow
via the West Highland Rail Line

A morning to Explore the picturesque fishing village of Plockton with a boat trip to see birdlife, seals and possibly dolphins. Plockton is famous for the filming of the television series Hamish McBeth featuring a village policeman and the Wicker man with Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland.

11:30 Transfer to Armadale

12:30 Ferry from Armadale to Mallaig

14:10 Steam train (Harry Potter railway) to Glenfinnan for train museum and Glenfinnan monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie

17:27 - 21:30 train to Glasgow. Arrive in Edinburgh 22:50
